We know many of you have been concerned about Ebola. While the chances of a major outbreak are minimal, we want to provide you with some basic facts.
How Does it Spread?
The Ebola virus is spread through close contact with someone infected with the disease that is showing symptoms. People with Ebola will run a fever, have diarrhea and vomiting. Close contact means that you came in contact with the sick person’s body fluid (vomit, blood, and diarrhea). The Ebola virus lives in vomit, diarrhea, blood and sweat. The sicker a patient is, the more virus there is in bodily fluids.
To infect you, the body fluid must get into your nose, mouth, eyes, or through a cut or by needle stick. It doesn’t soak in through the skin and it does not stick to surfaces; for example, you won’t pick it up from an object or a doorknob. You won’t get it from breathing the same air as someone who has Ebola.
