Meet Dr. Meera Shah

This CPCMG pediatrician loves spending time with her family in the San Diego sunshine, especially trips to the beach. She also likes working with families to find healthy solutions. Meet Dr. Meera Shah, pediatrician at CPCMG Regents in La Jolla.

At what CPCMG office do you work?
I work at the Regents office.

How long have you worked there?
I have worked at Regents since October 2015, but I have been with CPCMG since 2011 (I have also worked at the Chula Vista, La Jolla and Girard offices).

Where did you grow up? If you didn’t grow up in the San Diego area, what brought you to southern California?
I grew up in Upland, California which is only two hours away. I went to medical school in Chicago, but like all Californians, felt the need to come back to the west coast. I love San Diego for its beaches, weather and diverse culture.

Why did you decide to become a pediatrician? What attracted you to pediatrics? Did you consider other specialties?
I have always liked working with children and have been very passionate about preventing disease before it happens. I also considered oncology growing up, but as I went through medical school, I knew that pediatrics was my calling. I don’t think any other field is as fun as ours!

What do you enjoy most about working with children, parents and families?
I like the fact that we (parents, me and children) work together to come up with solutions.

Tell us about your family. Do you have children? What do you like to do as a family?
I have a husband and two small children. We love to check out new breakfast restaurants and going to the beach. We particularly like Mission Bay, Pacific beach, and Encinitas. Our family also goes to the park, plays soccer and lately, plays a lot of pretend “Star Wars.”

What is some important life advice (beyond what you learned in medical school) that you can give to parents for their children?
I think it’s really important to enjoy every moment we have together. As a parent who has been on the “patient” side, you realize that sometimes all the stress over the little things is just not as important as the relationships and experiences we all have with one another.

How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle? Any tips to share?
Generally I try to go for walks/jogs in the neighborhood or at the beach. I have found that having the kids involved with meal preparation or grocery shopping, can really help get them interested in trying new vegetables!

What are your favorite pastimes/hobbies? What else do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy scrapbooking, making cards and paper crafts. I also like reading and baking.
